Meowy Kissmas, y'all.
Dec. 25th, 2015 01:47 amI just love a good christmas miracle. 'Cause if anybody understands having a shitty holiday season, it's us. We know who we are.
Happy Christmas, everybody. Hugs and love.

My other sister got pictures. :D
Looking at all the pictures makes me wish I'd been there. :/

Many fanfic writers use the services of the same beta reader for years. I have been wondering if it would be better to switch betas more often and be exposed to a wider variety of comments.
What do you think are the advantages and disadvantages of switching? Of staying with the same beta always? I ask this theoretically, because this is a question about the system of long beta relations, not about individual people. If you want, you can answer from a writer´s perspective, but also from a beta-reader's perspective, or both.
I answered from a writer's perspective. And, by the way, this was a very good topic to pursue.

I'm not gonna go wild (Um, FRAK no) and say sayonara to
newnumbertwo and
laura_mayfair anytime soon (or like, ever), but I'm easier now with the changes happening within BSG fandom in general and within my BSG writing world in particular. If and when (please make it no time soon, pleasepleaseplease) I have to let them go, I will let them go with love.
Things change. I don't have to like it. I do have to Roll With the Changes. TM REO Speedwagon.

My story for the Finish Your Shit WIP Big Bang is DONE! (though if I've asked for comments or beta, I'm more than willing to revise/clarify right up to the end.)
Now I have to sit on my hands and wait until the posting dates go live. And not fiddle with it too much.

Fandom Snowflake Challenge - Day One
Jan. 11th, 2015 07:29 pmFandom Snowflake Challenge

Day One - In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks you've created. It can be some of your favorite fanworks, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator.

Some fun stuff
Nov. 18th, 2014 05:33 pmThe Church of Bloggesianism. Once you decide it's for you, you get to choose your own title. How cool is that? :D
LibraryThing's SantaThing. It's Secret Santa for booklovers! Amazon should have something like this, year round, for when people are feeling generous and just want to give some gifts. Let's say during my mom's birth month, October, I wanted to honor her. I could tell Amazon how much I wanted to spend, and they could randomly choose a wishlist for me, or someone who also has an October birthday. I wouldn't even have to know who. Wouldn't that be fantastic to get truly surprise birthday gifts from a total stranger? I think so.
Also, it snowed here on Sunday night. It melted pretty quickly once the sun hit it, but it was snow. On the ground. In November. Weird. And pretty. :D

Someone commented on my Helo meta entry the other day - she's been reading my fic on AO3, and when I said I needed a Helo, she made me this. For some reason, it showed up in my email, and in my lj inbox, but it's not in the comments on that entry. Livejournal, you are a wondrous and confusing creature.
Just in case you thought I was ungrateful for your gift,
canonisrelative, I wasn't. It just isn't showing up in the comments on that entry. Now you know I appreciate it. I saved it as a GDoc. :D

Valentines galore
Feb. 14th, 2014 06:06 amSo I posted a week or so ago about this Valentine's Day thing that
svmadelyn does every year, and I guess some people saw the post or something.
Several people I know are mentioned. There are others that the names sound familiar, but I guess from another venue. LJ is the only place I'm currently fannish, so... Anyway, that's beside the point.
There are two posts: A-M and N-Z. Go read your valentines or kudos or pats on the back or whatever you want to call them. Or see if someone you know but I don't has valentines. It's exciting, spreading the love around, especially fannish/friendship love. :D
Thank you,
svmadelyn, for your hard work!

A couple of you might not have friended me, so I'm leaving the post public for now (and if you want your name removed, let me know). You can think I'm spreading the word 'cause I did 'em all, but I didn't. Other people love you, too.

Sekrit Valentine
Jan. 27th, 2014 10:02 pmMy friend,
svmadelyn, does this Valentine thing every year. Or she used to, then she stopped for a while, now she does it again.
It's like that Zig Ziglar exercise, where everybody comes up with nice things to say about everyone else, only they do it anonymously. No one's heard of good old Zig? Anyway.
If you go here, you can read her post and go to the form and fill in the lj names of up to fourteen people and say something nice about them. Anonymously. It's like bsg_epics love day, except all of livejournal, and anonymous.
It's fun. And has less calories than chocolate. Though chocolate's brown, so it substitutes for anything, which means celery, which has negative calories, so okay, that analogy doesn't work. I'm back to it's fun.

Spirit of Giving
Dec. 10th, 2013 05:19 pmIt has a cheesy voiceover, but THIS is what christmas is supposed to be. Not about the gifts themselves, but doing something for somebody just because.

Random writing
Jul. 22nd, 2013 05:51 pmMy first longfic is finished and posted, both to my ficjournal and to AO3.
It would neither have ever been finished nor been as good if it weren't for my beta-reader
newnumbertwo. I would compliment her, but I can't think of any words right now that are enough.
I hope it ended as well as it started for those of you reading it in progress on AO3.
Special thanks to
bluuefiire for commenting almost every time I posted a new bit and finding something good to say about it. And reminding me she wanted it finished. lol I really hope you like the end, bb.
Now, I think I'm gonna take a break. I've got big bangs to beta, and a book to edit.
