birthday stuff
Feb. 9th, 2004 03:20 pmWow! September was the last time I posted. Gotta get over here much more often.

Last year was my first birthday after my mom died, and it wasn't so bad. I didn't miss her much, and had a decent time at dinner with my friends.
For I don't know how many years, my mom would get up early (she was SO not a morning person) and call me on my birthday (she did this for all of us kids, not just me), and sing me happy birthday and tell me how glad she was that I picked her to be my mom. I always thought it was kinda hokey and awkward in a god-mom-this-is-so-embarrassing-are-you-going-to-sing-to-me-again?-I'm-too-old-for-this kind of way. This morning, I got up and started attempting to wake up my 10 year old, and I really missed that early morning happy birthday. For an nth of a split second, I wondered when she was going to call. I checked to be sure my cell phone hadn't died.
On a happier note, yesterday I had home-cooked ribs with homemade BBQ sauce and steamed baby asparagus with my dad and stepmom and daughter, the first time I've had a birthday with that set of parents in close to 15 years, I think. The food was wonderful, and much better than anything we could have paid to eat at a restaurant.
Last night, I took advantage of the All You Can Eat Shrimp thing at Red Lobster, and conned 8 of my friends into going with me. I had a fabulous birthday dinner with great company, a ginormous strawberry daiquiri (which for the price I really should have been able to bring home the glass) and oh-so-nummy shrimp.
Tonight, for my actual birthday dinner, I get to go to Cici's to support the school, and then on to basketball practice. Happy birthday to me, right? :)
