I answered this in the comments section of the original post, and I was going to expand on that answer, but I've run out of
time for December.
At the very core of it, it's that she's damaged, but hasn't let it stop her. I guess I identify with the scrappy survivor in her.
She bends but doesn't break. At least not for long.
She doesn't love easily, but when she does, she doesn't hold back. She's all in, even if she thinks/knows going in that it's
going to hurt. In fact, I think that Kara believes love has to hurt, and she does it anyway. She doesn't necessarily call it love,
and might deck someone for pointing it out, but she loves hard and deeply.
She's afraid of a lot of things, including her feelings, but she's not afraid of herself.
There's something inside her that pushes her to be better than yesterday, better than an hour ago. She's never satisfied
with good enough, never believes she is good enough, and this a trait that frequently is more bad than good. Sometimes
good enough should be good enough.
She's strong and smart and sexy and has a wicked sense of humor.
Aside from everything else, Kara Thrace is only the Kara Thrace I love because of Katee Sackhoff, so, there's that.

Wishing you the BEST new year, full of dragons. *twirls you* Happy 2014! K :)

Date: 2014-01-01 08:03 am (UTC)I wasn't too thrilled about her hair in the beginning, but I began to realize that it was a part of Kara - she's not all that vain, doesn't need to pretty herself up just so to do her job.
I love Lee for all his faults and foibles. Maybe I love him more because Kara does. Heee.
We all have weird things. I hate that TV people think everyone has to be pretty. I mean, no one in the middle of Kansas is even average-looking? Come on, casting directors, give me real people! I like people with laugh lines and faces full of character and off-center noses and and and. lol

Date: 2014-01-01 08:13 am (UTC)This. Not everyone is pretty or skinny or whatever... But could we just start with hair that might have been done by that character in that situation instead of clearly having been styled in a chair. Next plain, skinny women. And then girls that are fat without that being a plot point. ;)
I said once that I might have been able to watch BSG without Kara, but I wouldn't have watched without Lee. hee.
Kara love Lee, desperately. But she doesn't need to, ya know?
For the record, I don't think Lee needs to love Kara either, but he's more accepting if their connection because he views love differently. Less painfully.
