Much thanks to plaid_slytherin for teaching me how to make the links pretty!  ETA:  Except it didn't work.  What the frak did I do wrong?  Does it only work in comments and not in entries? Trying it again, using afrakaday's suggestion.

HTML tags only work in posts if you are using the HTML editor. If you are using the rich text editor (left-side tab), then you make links pretty by using the link button and typing or pasting the URL into the dialogue box, no a href needed. In comments, as you noticed, the default is HTML editing, so HTML tags will work.

Incidentally, I type HTML tags into my fic as I'm drafting it so that I can copy and paste the whole thing into the HTML editor when it's time to post. You don't seem to have any issues with formatting on your journal but I just thought I'd throw that out there.
