Tonight's writing exercises
This was my first time attending
bronxafh, and it was more fun than some in person meetings I've been to.
Here you go.
Warmup
Bronx mural with light bulbs
The bad ideas outnumbered the good ones, and it was difficult to maintain a positive attitude. There were some real bad ideas here today.
Bad or worst, cried, give up, bug, smile, thankful use all six
"Bug!" she cried. This was taking her night from bad to worse. It was tempting to give up and just start over again in the morning, but the bug disappeared, and as her eyes followed it, they lit upon a rainbow outside the window. She smiled. There was always something to be thankful for, and she appreciated the timely reminder.
Gator crawling out of sewer, has hold of small girl child. Child standing nearby is looking on as if bored NY subway sculpture
Baldur had caught the girl child right outside the manhole, quicker and easier than normal. Usually children were more savory and tender than adults, especially girls, but this one left him wanting to spit the horrible taste out of his mouth. He wondered if the child standing nearby watching would taste better. And he wondered if spitting out this child would damage his reputation as a Killer Sewer Croc. He hoped not; he didn't want to be kicked out of the KSC club because he caught a bad human and couldn't keep it down. There would be no living that down.

personal development stuff
I'm in the middle of three types of classes. Two are strictly learning a new skill, and one is about personal improvement. I'm going to post stuff here about the stuff I learn, and it'll be intimate (not sexual) and potentially uncomfortable.
I do not have a problem sharing this stuff, but I am going to filter it. If you want to be in on the process, maybe ask questions to help me get deeper, please comment here to let me know. If you don't, you can also comment, but don't have to, and my feelings will not be hurt about you setting a boundary for yourself.

Come get your pancakes and take a nap in my boobs. (Texts From Last Night)

Your favorite boobs are sending you season's greetings. She clicked send on the anonymous text site and waited.
His response was almost immediate and her eyes boggled.
"Amy?"
Who the frak was Amy? "Not Amy."
"Sandra?"
"Sandra? Oh my frakking gods! How many girls have sent you tit pics?! Not frakking Sandra, either."
"Oops."
"Oops? Two wrong guesses and that's what you say?" She waited a moment and sent another message. "Since these are obviously not your favorites, they take back their invitation to take a nap in them."
"No. Wait. Give me another minute!"
Kara didn't answer. She clicked the red X and shut down her computer.

Snowflake # 1 Introduction
I'm an empty-nester living in Atlanta. I watched Battlestar Galactica (2003) in late 2012, and am frankly stunned by how much the show affected me. I'm having trouble watching anything else because it just doesn't come together quite so perfectly.
Honestly, I have no idea who made my icons. I just uploaded some new ones to reflect BSG, and though I'm pretty sure they came from no_takebacks, I don't know who personally made them. Ooh, but I got a couple of new ones made for a big bang fic by lotrspnfangirl.
I'm always willing to do SPaG beta for just about any fandom, if the work is under 5K. Just send me a PM and ask - chances are good I'll have time for it. If it's a larger work, or a work-in-progress, I'll need more information, such as deadlines and such. I prefer to work in GDocs, but also beta using Word/Track Changes. If you need continuity or characterization, ask me if I'm familiar with your fandom. I don't list all my favorites in the 'interests' tag.
You can also find me on Twitter, and I've written a lot of Amazon/GR reviews. If you're looking for my fiction, I'm on archiveofourown.org, username lanalucy. I'm also on fanfiction dot net, but I post very few of my stories over there.
And my Safe Space Statement: No matter what your problem/question/dilemma is, I am a SAFE person to talk to. I will speak lovingly to you, and there is nothing about you that can possibly turn me away. Always feel free to PM me if you need to talk to someone.

Writing stuff
Looking at my AO3, I realize it's been three years since I wrote and posted anything on a regular basis. I hate that. I want to write more. I need to write more. I need to finish shit and get it posted more. I work on stuff and it just never sees the light of day. Blech.

Writing Prompts
Okay, so I want to write, but even though I've been getting some good prompts at Kink every week, I want to try something different. Below the cut is a giant list of keywords/phrases. If you feel so inclined, choose five of these and leave me a comment with those words/phrases. It's likely to be Karafic, possibly K/L fic, and you might get lucky and get something entirely different.

Kindness
Kindness. It's everywhere, despite the current news cycle.
Sometimes, kindness is so profound, it can never be paid back, and it's difficult to imagine paying it forward to the extent you impact someone else's life the same way.
I do the best I can by gifting kindnesses, in mostly small ways, every day. A smile goes a long way, as does a compliment. I can only hope some of my kindnesses are as profound in someone else's life as others' have been in mine.
Saying Thank You is inadequate, but I'll put it out there anyway. I am most grateful for the gifts in my life. Thank you.

Mental Light Bulbs Ahoy!
Check-in Ladies, you've already seen this, so you can skip it!
I believe humans, people, society, function better when we have villages. I don't mean literal villages where people live near each other in tiny towns, but social villages, where people support each other in myriad ways. I realized today I had taken to heart the idea "Be the change you want to see in the world," and I'm living it. It was an eye-opening moment for me to connect the little things I do every day to my view of how the world would work better.
Tonight's example is our Applebee's waitress. I was cranky about her, and asked Landlady for a reality check: was it just me? She agreed the woman was providing service, but without much enthusiasm. I talked it out with Landlady, brainstorming something positive I could say or do when I was coming up blank. In the end, when the woman came back to the table to check on us, I simply asked how her night was going. We chatted for a few minutes, and I found out she was back at work while she was still recovering from a respiratory infection. She was glad to have a job to support her babies, but she'd rather still be at home getting better. She told me that just me asking how her night was made her entire shift better, because it felt good to know someone cared.
In the end, even though nothing really changed (i.e. her service didn't improve a lot, though it did improve), I felt better about the whole thing, and she had more of a spring in her step as she went about her shift.
So, not big things at all, but a momentous shift in my psyche to recognize personal progress and welcome it. Not looking for kudos or anything, more just sharing a lightning-bolt moment in my life today.

Lj servers now reside in Russia
If you haven’t heard the news, SUP has relocated the Livejournal servers to Russia. The concerns associated with this move are fairly well documented here and here.
I will be exporting my personal and fic journals to Dreamwidth in the near future. If you own fic comms and want that fic preserved for posterity, check out the second link to learn how easy it is to export to DW. I know it's not the same, but the privacy concerns are REAL.

I am out of pocket the entire day today. If we've got something in progress, I'll get back to it tomorrow. I can only hope you're having more fun than I am.
Hugs, y'all!!

Anybody got a few minutes?
I've got about 2500 words on a 2015 bsg_kink bingo card fill. I changed something major and need someone to read through and make sure I changed all the pronouns properly, AND let me know if anything else is confusing. Also if it's worth continuing. You know, the usual. :D
I think
plaid_slytherin,
singerdiva01_sk,
fragrantwoods, and
laura_mayfair have access to it already. It's on page eight of "KINK - current week," which is obviously a badly-named document. lol
Anybody else has time, ask me to add you.

Review: Edge of Wild by Danika Stone

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
FULL DISCLOSURE: I had the pleasure of reading this many months ago as an alpha reader, and I was gifted a digital copy of this book by the author. I am on the street team for this book. None of that in any way impacts my opinions. DK knows I would tell her if it blew.
Edge of Wild
The story has changed so much from initial writing to now, and is a better book for the input of Stonehouse Publishing.
Edge of Wild is a mystery. It's a love story. It's a paean to the Northern Rocky Mountains and Waterton, Alberta, Canada. It's a peek into the secrets kept even, perhaps especially, in a small town. Some of those secrets are worth killing over.
Rich is a fish out of water in Waterton, and he plans to enjoy the challenge of getting a hotel up and running in an area with not enough tourist traffic. What little enjoyment he has, though, is ruined piecemeal, with problems ranging from relatively fixable issues like plumbing to much more dangerous vandalism, along with creepy discoveries both in and outside of the hotel.
Lou is appealingly odd, and befriends Rich from the start when he brings his car in for repairs. She's got a gift for fixing things, a story for everything, and a ready smile whenever Rich shows up.
Edge of Wild is very much Rich's story, and yet Lou as his touchstone is integral to the plot.
You'll encounter suspense aplenty, with several smaller mysteries contributing to the larger plot arc. Intense descriptions of the scenery made me question more than once why I wasn't living there instead of in Texas.
Edge of Wild kept me reading every evening, is on my "rereadable" list, and has me more than curious about what comes next for this small town.
