This is a red-letter day, as it marks my first experience with reality TV of any kind. I have always enjoyed Debbie Allen and I gotta admit, that song from what, 20 years ago? hooked me. So I rushed home to check it out.

This first hour has been pretty funny - Debbie Allen is just uproariously funny to me, and she was ON tonight! The next segments are performed by the 24 semi-finalists, broken down into groups of 6. It looks like they're going to have a little spot where we get to know each of them, which is good. I am into personal, so all flash and no 'ship just doesn't get it for me.

However, I really enjoyed the movie and the series because of the ongoing relationships. This little "contest" will have to work hard to acquire and retain that feel for me, since it looks like it'll all be about the competition and very little about how the competitors interact with each other.

What can I say? I've held out this long because none of what's come before even remotely appealed to me. We'll see how it goes.

I sort of resisted seeing this one because it just seemed like it would be silly, but it came to the dollar movie and Kid wanted to see it, so what the hell.

Amanda Bynes is a very attractive young lady and portrays a young woman coming into adulthood missing the father she's always known about but never known. The interactions between her and Colin Firth are really delightful and fairly convincing. I admit I cried a couple of times. Um, yes, I am a sap. But a shallow one. See next paragraph.

For me, though, the dirty old lady that I am, this boy stole the show! He's not only really pretty, but he has a lovely, soothing (yeah, soothing, that's it) accent, and really sings (his songs appear on the soundtrack) in the movie.

And on another completely different shallow note: I watched the TNT premiere of Boomtown on Monday. I never watched this when it was on NBC just because it sounded completely confusing in the pre-season madness of new series cliff notes. It actually wasn't confusing once I was watching it, and Jason Gedrick was in it. I like to watch Jason Gedrick. That boy can run, fast, and he looks wicked cool doing it. Flat out running, looking fine, fine, fine. I might have to catch up over the summer while nothing else is on Mondays. Maybe he gets to run a lot. :}
