Mom's bragging rights

lanalucyAs some of you know, I'm a single mom. I think being a mom, a good one, is a difficult job, one that I do not always do right, just to the best of my current ability. That said, I wanted to brag, publicly, about something I think I've done right.
I've recently gotten somewhat involved in the local grassroots campaign of a Democratic Presidential Candidate here in Texas. This is something I've never even considered doing before, but something I consider necessary in response to the clear and present danger of continued Bush reign. YMMV. kimonthejourney's house, and she is a most gracious hostess. This candidate is not the one I've chosen, but I wanted the opportunity to consider Howard Dean for myself, firsthand, as it were. I took my child, my ten year old daughter, to this meeting with me, just as I've taken her to all the weekly meetings for my candidate. She appeared to charm several of the adults there, as is her gift with people. Kid, all of ten years old that she is, has decided that she likes Howard Dean better. She hasn't really discussed her reasons, but those reasons are kind of beside the point.
That point being, my ten year old child feels confident enough in herself to make a relatively informed choice about a political candidate, a choice that differs from mine, and she trusts herself enough to communicate her choice to others in a public forum. I'm attempting to raise an independent woman, and to me this is proof positive that I'm doing something fundamental very right.
So, on with your day. My Monday is much better than usual, all things considered. :->
