Thanks to
marakara posting it openly in her LJ, I knew that Ephram was going to blow off Julliard. I forgive you, Mara, because that was nothing compared to the rest of the story. Gregory Smith amazed me in this ep, more in Ephram's scenes with Madison than in his scenes with his father, but still very well-done in both. I can see the possibility of Ephram wanting to challenge the child's adoption, or at least struggling with that thought. The heartbreak over Madison's decision was evident in his very expression, much less his words. Amy's response to Ephram's question was wonderful, if a little stilted. Perhaps that was Emily Van Camp's delivery.
OK. Um, color me conservative, but since when do high school nurse's offices keep pregnancy tests on hand for students? Should my daughter ever decide to become sexually active while still in high school, I don't want the school to have anything to do with anything, other than educating her. We have a doctor for those sorts of things, and she'll know that she can come to me and we'll do whatever we need to do. If she doesn't want to come to me, there's Planned Parenthood. The high school needs to keep its nose out of my daughter's sex life, except in the context of education.
What was the point of the preview saying, "Tragedy will strike one of them," when the WB has already overshared that Missy's going to die in a car crash? Helloooo.
Amazing Grace has always been my favorite hymn. I loved its use here, and would have preferred to hear it without the dialogue cutting into it. I did like the wording of the vows Bobby took, but as in the scenes with Grace and Missy in Illinois (?), the dialogue was secondary and unneccessary.
All about Brass. I liked the way he dropped everything and swept off to LA for a girl who's not even his daughter, though she obviously is in his heart. If she knew that one little fact, it might change everything for her. Who's the gal who played the chief or whatever? She looks familiar. Mara?
This episode was hyped to hell by CBS, and for me at least, it lived up to it. Interesting thought, that Joan's service as a "connection" was predestined, in a way, by who her parents are and how they would have been an unlikely couple as kids - the avenger and the visionary. Joan's friendship with "YaYa" (a play on Yahweh?) is long-lived. Why'd she stop seeing him when she did and why'd she start seeing him again, and why does my Dad like this show? Is Joan's mom a "connection" of some kind, too? If she sees this stuff, why was she not more supportive of Joan when she talked about seeing God last year? Denial?
As a "focused" fan of BtVS, I liked the Buffy-esque moment at the end, with "You've got everything you need," panning back to see her group of friends. The Arcadia Gang does not have the same ring as the Scooby Gang, though. Others have mentioned that they don't like this direction, but I do. I'm very interested to see where they take it, and if they can take it there while still keeping it in context with the Joan of Arcadia we already know.
Lilly's struggle to articulate what she's feeling for Kevin, and her confusion over those feelings was really touching. While I think that the scrappy ex-nun act is a front for a soft heart, I hope that they don't soften her up too much. I enjoy her abrasiveness.
Good Harm/Mac moments, though too few of them. Vukovic is still a completely unneccesary addition to the cast. I LOVED that Harm finally lost a case (granted, he was second chair) to Bud! You go, boy! The cut from Mattie's hospital room, Harm's frantic rush out the door for a doctor, to the conference room, with no segue, was just bad. I won't even ask what DPB was thinking, though. That's useless, really. While I hold out strong hopes for some shagalicious Harm and Mac next week, I know that won't happen. He's already said so in his interviews. Nonetheless, I squeeeeed like a fangirl when I heard the final voiceover of next week's series finale preview for myself. If he completely screws this up, I might have to hurt him.
And just for the record, those people who think he's going to push his precious little Michael onto NCIS? He's not. Not yet, anyway. His daughter, Troian, hits that show next season, though.
There were a couple of nice whole-family moments here. I loved the dad yanking the phone from Charlie's hands to tell Don where to evacuate. They work well together.
I'm still waiting for some more backstory on Don and Terry. I wouldn't turn down some non-FBI action there, either.
I accidentally caught an ad for this. Hot Damn!! I was so thoroughly distracted by the thought of Orlando Bloom and Liam Neeson in the same movie, that I don't even know what this movie is about. Doesn't really matter. I'm already sold. lol
It was nice to see Carmen Argenziano not on Stargate. He looked very formal and uncomfortable here, though. His picking up on Lilly's comment to her brother and using it to help decide to revoke his own son's diplomatic immunity was perfect, even if I did see it coming a mile off.
Of course, there's more, but those 5 hours aren't watched yet. There's Revelations, McLeod's Daughters and Charmed, as well as a Family Channel movie to watch with Kid. Yes, I'm one of the 7 people who are still watching Charmed. Don't ask me why.

Date: 2005-04-27 09:47 am (UTC)I'll help you! I stopped watching "JAG" this season because I was so sick of DPB's never-ending UST between Harm and Mac. I did watch the episode where Mac went to a therapist because she couldn't sleep. That was a really good one. And I'm really looking forward to seeing what will happen with the finale. But if DPB doesn't have Harm and Mac together in the end, I will have to hurt him. *g*
So, in the off-chance that they'll actually show reruns of this season, are there any episodes that are "must sees"?

Date: 2005-04-27 10:06 am (UTC)There's really not been very much character development, with the exception of Mattie's effect on Harm and his fathering skills. Unlike many JAG fans, I've actually enjoyed that relationship and the correllary (sp?) relationships of Jen and Harm and Jen and Mattie.
To be honest, there've been moments I enjoyed all season long, but they'd probably fit into two hours. I'd recommend that if you happen to be home and can watch, give it a try. Otherwise, you're really not missing much. I wish I could say otherwise. :[

Date: 2005-04-27 10:37 am (UTC)I can't remember -- did Mac ever tell Harm that it looks like she won't be able to have children?

Date: 2005-04-27 11:13 am (UTC)It was Donna Murphy. She's mostly a Broadway actress but she was the wife (Heather) on Hack (which was shot in Philly so she could commute), a defense attorney from time to time on Law & Order and Dr. Octavus's wife in "Spiderman 2".
She's won a couple of Tonys - she has a lovely singing voice.
Sorry I screwed up Everwood - I saw on it on a delay and figured everyone did as well. Really sorry.
Take Care

Date: 2005-04-27 11:26 am (UTC)Besides, I take that chance. Sometimes my delay is 4 or 5 days, and I get spoiled, no matter how much I try not to.

Date: 2005-04-27 11:27 am (UTC)Law & Order. That's probably it. Although, "Spiderman 2?" That's much more likely to be where I've seen her.
Her lip gloss was distracting, but not in a bad way. lol
