For Community Day o [livejournal.com profile] bsg_epics.  I'm late to the party, but then you've met me, right?

BSG, how do I love thee?  Or why?  Or something.

I've loved other shows.  I've fangirled all over other shows.  But I have never fallen in love with another show the way I did with this one.  And to think I finally decided to watch it because I'd just finished Dollhouse and wanted to see whatever else Tahmoh was in.  lol

A mostly phenomenal cast - seasoned veterans to relative newbies, spanning the rainbow from gorgeous to plain jane to faces only mothers could love.  Characters from simple to double agents to so complex you'd need a lifetime to really understand everything that makes them tick.  This cast and crew genuinely liked each other and it showed in the way they were never afraid to bring their A game with each other, all the time.

Dark and gritty storytelling.  Not that the stories always made sense or were any good (Black Market, anyone?), but BSG went places with characters and plots that other TV, other scifi shows, don't even think about going.  And they were not afraid to kill people, even relatively important ones.  None of them hit me quite like Joyce on BtVS, but that death just.....I don't know, hit all the right buttons at the right time.

Music.  I didn't notice the music often, but when I did, it was marvelous!  I particularly loved the opening credits after season one, and wish I could find that online, other than YT.

Details.  There was always something to see, and even if the focus was on something in particular, there might be another something significant in the foreground or background (but only if you were paying attention).

Eye Candy.  Of every variety.

Katee Sackhoff and Jamie Bamber.  With other cast members, they were very good.  With each other, they were magically combustible.  They could say a million things, at the same time, just with the expressions on their faces.  They played off each other almost instinctively, I think, and I would just adore to see them do something else together that involved a lot of screentime.  And if there were a lot of making out with each other, that wouldn't hurt my feelings, even a little bit.  :D

The people still keeping fandom alive.  I didn't watch BSG until last fall, so I'm grateful that there are still like-minded people in the fandom with whom I can fangirl and squee without anyone giving me the side-eyes.

Last but not least:  I've never in my life written anything fictional that was even remotely good.  I've never had a story stuck in my head that refused to go away until I "wrote" it down.  Until BSG.  Interestingly, not all the stuff I've written now, what little there is, is fanfiction.  I've actually written a couple of original pieces.  Even without everything else, BSG would always hold a special place in my heart for breaking the lock on that box.
