BSG Rewatch: Mini

I picked up seasons one, two and two.five over the weekend at a really great price, so I figured I'd just start all over again.  I'd only gotten partway through season two on Amazon, anyway.

I'm watching the mini with more open eyes this third time, paying more attention, and some things are so much more poignant, knowing where it all ends, and how some of these characters' lives are changed so completely from what they are here at the beginning.

And on a 'shipper note, when Lee and Kara are talking at the Viper when he's notdead, as he's getting ready to walk away, people are so right!  "I'll be in the squadron......ready room."  Lee so totally checks out her rack.  Or else Katee was doing something at chest level, but off camera, to make Jamie look there.  Either way, it's so obvious and so funny.

I see an intriguing bookend with the hug between Papa and Lee, where Lee is hesitant to hug him back at first, then closes his eyes and lets go.  It's the same view we get of the hug between Lee and Kara, just before he leaves to take command of the Pegasus, where she's the one who's hesitant to hug him, but then steps in, closes her eyes, and lets go.  Without having watched this more than once, I wouldn't have noticed that.  And it may be sheer coincidence, but maybe not.

I love the look on Saul's and Lee's faces when Cmdr Adama just says out of the blue, "They better start having babies."  Everybody looks around, and Saul's like, "Is that an order?" 

I love the mix of excitement and horror on Lee's face when he realizes what Starbuck's doing flying toward him at the end of the fight outside Ragnar anchorage.  Jamie has the most amazing facial expressions throughout the whole of the series.

Had the miniseries been all there was of the reimagined show, it would have been a tolerable place to stop - humanity managed to get away and had some hope.  Unsatisfying, but tolerable.  Thankfully, we got four more seasons of the show, even if the end was uneven and somewhat anticlimactic.
