Ballykissangel - I borrowed the first two "series" from a friend who has them, mainly because I heard that Colin Farrell was on the show, and I wanted to see him pre-big-headed fame. He doesn't come on the show until season four. I checked out the bonus features first, as I tend to do. In one of the interviews with the creator, he talks about why he kills a character. This is a character that doesn't get killed until the third season. Thanks, dude. You really make me want to watch the rest to find out what happens to that character. Most of the bonus features on the season one disc are better suited to season six, or at least after season three, when the characters in question leave the show. There's a lot of show retrospective, talking about how it's not on the air anymore, and people miss it, and the tourist trade in Avoca, where it was filmed and so on. The bonus features on season two are more suited to season one. I really kinda like this show, though, and I didn't expect to. I had to turn the close captioning back on, because there are no subtitles, and sometimes, I needed them.

Without a Trace - The first episode had an audio problem. The audio lagged about 2 seconds behind the video. Very annoying, but I learned that I read lips better than I thought I did. I like first season Jack. He looks a lot like my father at about that age, especially with the glasses. The first two episodes wouldn't have sucked me in, but by the end of the first DVD, I'm interested in learning more about these characters. I like Martin Fitzgerald, but my favorite Eric Close character is from Now and Again. I loved that show.

Anna and the King - I am not ashamed to admit that I've been a Jodie Foster fan for a very long time. This time, though, she blew me away. I really liked the movie, anyway, simply because the characters and the scenery make me long to go back to Thailand for an extended visit (in a way that The Last Samurai did not make me want to go back to Japan, but Karate Kid did). Jodie Foster is just breathtakingly beautiful. Not in an exotic, hot, drop dead kind of way, but in a plain, everyday, ordinary kind of way. Like when I see old-fashioned pictures of someone's mom and think, "Wow." I think that the epilogue in the bonus features gives the end that little bitty additional finish. Wonderful makeup job by whoever. And wonderful acting like an old person by Jodie. Only made me think of Jack on Stargate for a teeny flash of a moment.

Angel - For some reason, I managed to watch the entire run of Angel, but missed the final two episodes. WTF? Anyway, I'm not entirely happy that it's over, but David Boreanaz was beginning to show his age in a way that Angel shouldn't. I loved that Connor came back in the final ep to help his dad out and that he spelled out that he knew who and what he was, but he was happy where he was, with his "family." Some of the bonus features sorta indicated that Gunn was turned, but the actual end didn't show that, so maybe I missed something. In the end, Wesley had a hero's death, and Illyria has a new reason to fight. And Angel maybe gets to slay a dragon. I was completely floored by Lorne killing Lindsey. I still don't get that. Obviously, it was something Angel told him to do, but I would have liked just a touch more exposition there. And Lindsey could have died shirtless or something. Geez.
