kissing

I like kissing, personally. It's one of my favorite parts of a romantic relationship. Aside from romance, it's remarkably expressive: one glance can tell you volumes. Kisses happen between all kinds of people - parents/children, siblings, family members - whether family of the blood or of the heart or of the mob, business associates, romantic interests and old married couples. Kisses can say "hello" or "I care deeply" or "I don't know what to say" or "goodbye" or hundreds of other things.

Absolutely my favorite part of watching TV is watching kissing happen.

Mulder and Scully - rare and packed with subtext. It never just happens on the spur of the moment, though it may appear that way. Their feelings for each other, whether you subscribe to romo or noromo, are deep and complex and aren't going to go away.

Will and Sydney - lowered inhibitions allow him to try to satisfy his curiosity. I could have stood for more of this, because frankly, Bradley Cooper is hot, and I like the way he kisses.

Sydney and Vaughn - the overwhelming realization that life is short, and in their cases, could end at any moment, pushes them to acknowledge their feelings for each other, finally, but it's hardly the last time they kiss. Their kisses are generally heartfelt and, during season 2 at least, rarely perfunctory.

Comparing the two, Sydney's kisses with Will were warm and fuzzy we've-been-friends-why-not-more, whereas kissing Vaughn is a culmination of caring and friendship and trust pushed aside and stuffed into the corners until it transforms into something that won't allow itself to be stopped any longer.

Veronica's kisses with Duncan (as shown during season 1) are the perfunctory kind. I don't see any real passion, just a couple of kids who care about each other and kissing is sort of an expected extension of that. It's too bad, too, because there's chemistry there.

Veronica/Deputy Leo kisses are warm and fuzzy, but no fire. Nothing wrong with this kind of kissing - it's certainly still enjoyable. lol

Veronica/Logan's first one, however, was hot and full of feeling. Some of this may have been repressed before - their respective relationships prior to Lilly's death would have stopped either of them from acting on any feelings, even if they acknowledged them, and the circumstances of Lilly's death and surrounding events precluded them from comforting each other as friends. Of course, fiction is full of examples of people who hate-at-first-sight because they subconsciously recognize the possibility of life-changing emotional impact and self-preservation dictates that they avoid such a risk.

Other favorites, either one-time or in the context of a relationship: Joey/Pacey, Jack/Sam, Worf/Jadzia Dax, Aragorn/Arwen ::swoon::, Jordan/Woody, Patrick/Kat (OMG, I just realized that Charlie Eppes was the "yeah, that's a Toyota" guy in Ten Things) and Ennis/Jack.

Three of my favorite onscreen kissers are Michael Vartan, Heath Ledger and Viggo Mortenson. I just love the way each looks when he's kissing - absorbed, like there is nothing else in the world as important as what he's doing right then. Others don't look so great; for instance, the older Harrison Ford gets, the less I want to see him kissing anybody, and that's sad, because I love Harrison Ford.

Apropos of nothing, Veronica Mars bossman Rob Thomas graduated from high school the same year I did, from a high school less than an hour away from mine. For all its size, Texas is a small world. lol

What are some of your favorites? Feel free to tell me why and link to screencaps.

ETA: Best surprise kiss lately? Amita/Charlie: "You really are a genius." The look on his face afterwards. Dude.

ETA2: Sweetest recent TV kiss? Rose/Bernard at reunion. We should all be so lucky.

Ironically, the most romantic movie I saw last year didn't have a single kiss in it. It was Barfuss (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0405743/), a truly lovely German film. I don't know if it's had its foreign release yet, but if you can get a copy of it even subtitled, you've got to watch it!
ext_12603: Scully at the computer (kiss on boat)

Off the top of my head --

Cary Grant/Eva Marie Saint in "North by Northwest" (http://www.unzeit.de/poster/Unsichtbare_Dritte_Der/Unsichtbare_Dritte_Der_72.jpg) ... the train scene, natch.

I'm embarrassed to say this, but there's this hot smooch between Clint Eastwoon & Meryl Streep in "Bridges of Madison County." Hee.

The parking garage kiss between Dave & Maddie on "Moonlighting" (http://www.davidandmaddie.com/goodstuff/s2-34.htm)

Jon Stewart & Gillian Anderson by the fire in "Playing by Heart"

ooooh! Yes! I completely forgot about that scene. I used to watch it on repeat for like, ever, all the time. Should I admit that? hee

Must watch PBH this week! :)

Ok, so yes - if given the chance, I would totally switch teams for Lauren Graham. ;)

That said, I love to watch her kiss - like, anybody. Even Christopher. ;) She just gets this look on her face and in her eyes and her body language just makes me forget that I'm watching an actress play a part - instead, I'm completely watching the character as if she was real and she makes me believe she really wants to kiss this guy.

My favorite Luke/Lorelai kiss is their first one at the end of season 4 (my icon). Perfection!! Next favorite is I think in the season 5 episode "The Party's Over" (the "Yale Male" party as I like to call it that Emily and Richard throw for Rory - I could be wrong on the ep title) when she's saying goodbye after Luke cooks her dinner. Yummy!

I don't see any chemistry at all between Veronica and Duncan so their kisses do nothing for me. But Veronica and Logan...yowza! You are right on with your description of them. Their first kiss was awesome (and well, all of them are as well)! So much passion between the two of them.

I will have to think some more on this. I know I have more favorite kissing scenes! My life does expand beyond Gilmore Girls and Veronica Mars, I swear! hee

Switching teams for Lauren Graham? Totally a good call.

Yes, I think so. :D

I do vaguely recall seeing more than just VM and GG DVDs on your shelves, so I'm sure you'll come up with some more examples. lol

Really? Cuz that's all I can remember being there. lol J/K (well, not entirely - my mind is a complete blank). I'm too bored to think coherently.

But I'm hyper. I had a 42oz coke for lunch. After not having any for quite a number of days. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

:D

Ooooh, I woud toooootally love to see Michael Muhney kiss...like anyone. I should check out some of his former stuff to see if he's ever had any love scenes, or at least kissing ones. :)

They really should give Lamb a girlfriend or fling on the show. At our lunch a few weeks ago we all talked about how it would rock if they put Lamb with Kendall (season 2 which I don't think you've seen yet?). OMG those 2 together would kill each other but I bet it would be very hot. heeeeeeeeeee MM agreed wholeheartedly.

Ok, so I really just want to see MM kiss so I can pretend he's kissing me. *sigh* ;)

Some of my favourites.. no time to look for photos, maybe I'll try that later.

The leeeeaaannninnngg kiss at the end of While You Were Sleeping... "I love you" "I love you back."
SO tasty!

Something about leaning works for me I guess cause the kiss at the end of Clueless where Cher and her pseudo brother are sitting at the top of the stairs knees together leaning towards each other.

The often vilified "soul kiss" between Catherine and Vincent in Beauty and the Beast.

Call me crazy, but the very end of Excess Baggage... Alicia Silverstone and Benicio DelToro in the trunk of her car. Charming!

Hugs and Howls....
