RDM's Helix

Saw the first trailer for Season One of Helix, which is set to air on Syfy in January, I think.
It's a teaser trailer, and frankly, only inspired remote interest in watching. It gave me none of what I watch TV for: 'ships. There were a couple of voiceovers over mostly horrorish visuals, and no people really interacting. I watch TV for the people and how they form relationships with and around each other, Ron, not for the trying-to-scare-me horror. The real horror for me comes from watching how whatever-the-thing-is impacts those relationships, either destroying them or creating stronger bonds.
Probably why I don't get much out of horror things like Nightmare On Elm Street or Friday the 13th: I don't care about any of the people. They don't establish any sort of tie, just start making out and getting dead.

I'd never thought about the whole lack of connection to horror movie characters, but certainly another, slightly more pretentious reason to dislike horror movies. hee.

Date: 2013-11-06 04:53 am (UTC)as long as he doesn't have to provide closure, we might get exactly that. lol
because it was the closure that BSG was really lacking. And logic. So I figure as long as the mythos/universe is more, and it doesn't have to be a lot more, just slightly more, set... I'm willing to give it a try.
But I'll try almost anything sci-fi with reasonably good production values. ;p

Date: 2013-11-06 05:13 am (UTC)I didn't recognize anyone else right off. But I do think RDM casts well, so I'm hopeful there.

Date: 2013-11-06 05:33 am (UTC)I don't watch Revenge. Straight up soaps are really hard for me. I get bored without an otherworldly sub-plot, or super-plot maybe it is. And Shonda Rhymes shows don't work for me either. I tried with both Grey's and Private Practice. (I know she's not Revenge, but... you know.) I like an element of fantasy and danger, like as distraction from the soapiness. hee.
